A little known FACT! 28 Jan 2012, 1:08 pm

Yes nothing enflames a conversation more, than the use of the word FACT!

So I’ve cobbled a few stories together for my little series of mini-historical profiles for the players.

I’m sure there’ll be more to come.

There’s more talent in the squad than you know!

The Right Stuff!

(tiny disclaimer: None of the stories are actually based on fact…except the Sven one….maybe)

Leicester City much better than I first thought, admits Paolo Di Canio 28 Jan 2012, 8:06 am

Merc

Paolo Di Canio says he has changed his opinion of Leicester City and now believes they are good enough to reach the Championship play-offs.
The Swindon Town boss, who brings his League Two side to the King Power Stadium today for an FA Cup fourth-round clash, said two weeks ago that City were “lots of old players who possibly think they are good but don’t have the right discipline”.

However, the Italian watched City’s impressive victory at Southampton on Monday night and now feels they are a better side than he first thoughtand he credits boss Nigel Pearson for that.

“When I was talking about Leicester a few weeks ago, it was a completely different situation because as we all know football can change quickly,” said Di Canio.
“On Monday against Southampton, I saw a completely different team. They were more compact and had more discipline, and they are a team that I believe can now reach the play-offs.
“This is the best moment for them under Pearson. Since he arrived there in November, I believe they have had five wins, five draws and three defeats. When I saw the draw, I said I was not worried because I felt they did not have discipline and they did not play as a team.
“However, since then they have become more united and the performance against Nottingham Forest was fantastic, while the win over Southampton impressed me a lot.
“It will be very tough and you can see what influence the manager has had because the team has changed completely.”
But Di Canio is still confident his side can produce another shock after dumping out Premier League side Wigan in the third round, and he warned that Swindon will go to the King Power Stadium to win.
“We are going into the game from a good moment and we will go there to win,” he said. “I believe that if you go with the real intention to play the way we can and aim to win the game, then we can do this.
“This is probably not what all League Two clubs do when they go to a Championship side. Maybe they stay behind the ball and defend for their lives and rely on counter attacks and set-pieces.
“First of all this is not my mentality, and second of all I believe in my players’ ability. We will go there, work hard off the ball and, when we regain possession, we will push up with a minimum of five players and try to damage them.
“Hopefully, this way we can produce another special performance and get another special result.”

The future and hopefully a promotion 27 Jan 2012, 11:46 pm

The team of players Leicester City have and compared to other squads in the Championship they should be up there at the top.

The have a Premier League outfit and hopefully this will be seen until the end of the season,

Schmeichel, definately the best goalkeeper in the division
Peltier, a great right back prospect, good signing
Konchesky, played most of his career at the highest level, one of the best in his position in the Championship
Mills, definately Premier League quality
St Ledger, a good central defender at Championship level
Danns, great prospect and good in a central midfield position
Wellens, not regarded Premier League quality, but one that can cope well with Championship level
Drinkwater, a new and fresh signing from Man Utd, great potential with a Premier League future
Dyer, a good player at Championship level, needs to be trusted, at his best he is great
Beckford, Premier League quaity, used in the right way
Nugent, Premier League quality, England international, say no more

Should be up there at the top, everything besides the league position, says so !

Use local lads, they will lead the way long term 27 Jan 2012, 11:28 pm

You like to see young players from the city or area around Leicester getting a chance. This is really what footall is all about and how it should be. These days it looks as if a player is far away Japan or Hawaii or whatever, let’s sign him.

But if you look back at City’s best local players, here is my team and pick, and most of them played a long time ago,

1. Peter Shilton, Leicester, played for England
2. Steve Whitworth, Coalville, played for England
3. Joe Mattock, Leicester, played for England U.21
4. Andy Peake, Market Harborough, played for England U.21
5. Graham Cross, Leicester, played for England U.23
6. Alan Woollett, Leicester
7. David Tomlin, Nuneaton
8. Stefan Oakes, Leicester
9. Gary Lineker, Leicester, played for England
10. Bob Lee, Melton Mowbray
11. Emile Heskey, Leicester, played for England

12. Jeff Blockley, born in Leicester, but turned pro with Coventry and was signed back for £ 100 000, played for England
13. Chris Kirkland, born in Leicester, joined on loan, played for England
14. Russell Hoult, born in Leicester, but never really given a chance, played for England U.21
15. Matt Heath, born in Leicester, played in the Premier League, but sold to Coventry.
16. Matt Mills, born in Leicester, signed to the club for £ 5.5 million

Might have forgotten someone, but very few local lads makes the grade, and why are the academies doing totally wrong, or is it not possible to find talent in an area with a city and urban area with almost 450 000 citizens.

But this is not typical Leicester City, it’s a general problem in football. What you have in your backyard should not thrown away, not given a chance to grow or just throw them out and sign them back for £ 5.5 million. This is really a shame.

Pearson Calls In Wonka 27 Jan 2012, 10:00 pm

Nigel Pearson (Leicester Manager) has decided to bring in an expert on team morale due to recent transfer speculation.

Willy Wonka (Human Psychology Expert) has asked squad members to dress up as ‘Umpa Lompas’.

We are unkown wether this has boosted morale but Mr Wonka has recieved the full backing of the board.
